Joseph Lincoln Widgeon Drake

lincoln widgeonSuperlatives pale when attempting to describe the appeal of this widgeon drake by Joseph Whiting Lincoln (1859-1938). This is one of only two widgeon by Lincoln that exist in superb original condition. Few, if any carvers, achieved the pleasing rolling lines and perfect symmetry of a Lincoln decoy. The rich luster and surface texture puts Lincoln above the fray. Few admirers of great decoys would disagree. The paint on this decoy has the same brilliance as on the day it left his drying rack. Condition is excellent and original in all respects with a few miniscule surface abrasions from picking up and handling above the neck. Acquired directly from Robin Starr around 1970. Pictured on P. 55 in “Joseph W. Lincoln” by Vinal.

Provenance: Robin Starr, Harmon collection

Sold for a new world record of $97,750 at our 2014 Annual Summer Decoy Auction.
